Making Time For Self Care

Is the busyness stealing your peace? Have you learned how to say NO without feeling any guilt? Do you make time for yourself each day? Feeling overwhelmed and burned out?

When we learn to say NO, to anyone firmly but nicely you will show you’re setting boundaries in your life. And that is perfectly healthy. This can be hard when you are a mom with kids, sports, housework, and even working full time or part-time. It’s okay to sit down and plan a routine that works for you and your family.

It could be taking a nap, painting, drawing, reading, music, writing, or whatever makes you feel calm and at ease. My favorite would be to turn off the tv, listen to uplifting peaceful piano music, write, or take a nap. Sometimes I will pamper myself with a home pedicure, manicure or work on a project I’ve neglected. It will make you a better person knowing you spent some time on yourself and that isn’t being selfish.

If you have a balance, then you feel in control and you don’t feel overwhelmed. Taking care of ourselves isn’t just on resting but also mentally taking a break from social media, news, and turning the phone on mute for a time. Go for a walk, spend some quality time alone with God and make it a reflection time devoted to an intimate time one on one.

I honestly don’t stress anymore on projects that need to be accomplished. I look at the project and realistically say okay, this is going to take at least an hour or so. Get your phone out and set the timer. Go through that project without stopping and asking hmmm… Have a pile for donation, junk, and keep. If it doesn’t give you joy then give to someone that it will. Play music in the background if it will keep you focused. When done, treat yourself to a small treat like a cup of tea or coffee and sit for a few minutes then move on to the next one.

Making time for quiet solitude is so important for our mental health. Taking time to be just in the moment with God. Every morning I make it a point to take at least 10 to 15 minutes before heading out the door to work. I ask for his wisdom, guidance, and protection throughout the day. Always praying for my adult kids and husband to be safe and guide them to always make good decisions in their lives.

Here are a few verses I’d like to share with you that give you peace and keep you grounded throughout the day. ~ Blessings~

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46:10

The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still. Exodus 14:14

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30
