Praying God’s Word In Times Of Darkness

Praying the Psalms was how I first began praying God’s Word. In times of darkness, His Word truly was a lamp unto my path. These are practical truths in Psalms that are applicable for today and my own heart. I can honestly say, when going through such dark times in my life this Psalm pulled me through the muck and gave me peace within.

The first thing I noticed in the Psalm was the words  “do not fret do not worry”. We are always in the times of worry and fretting due to the economy and the stresses that are building up with the prices on everything from mortgages, rent, food, gas, and so on.

If you sit and be still for just a bit and tell the Lord what is on your heart, He will give you peace and direction. Sometimes I’d just say Lord, where am I to be today when reading your word? What message do you want me to read and pray on? Lay out your burdens to Him and pray with faith that everything will work out.

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil. For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.” Psalm 37:7-9

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can anyone of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Matthew 6:25-27

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

Take the time to read Psalm 37 in its entirety then close your eyes and take it all in.

ACCEPT EACH DAY exactly as it comes to you. By that, I mean not only the circumstances of your day but also the condition of your body. Your assignment is to trust Me absolutely, resting in My sovereignty and faithfulness. On some days, your circumstances and your physical condition feel out of balance. The demands on you seem far greater than your strength. Days like that present a choice between two alternatives giving up or relying on Me. Even if you wrongly choose the first alternative, I will not reject you. You can turn to Me at any point, and I will help you crawl out of the mire of discouragement. I will infuse My strength into you moment by moment, giving you all that you need for this day. Trust Me by relying on My empowering Presence.

Psalm 42:5  2 Corinthians 13:4  Jeremiah 31:25
